Retired media specialist

Hilery Cash was a Librarian (Media Specialist) for 38 years, working ten years in Detroit Public Schools and twenty-eight years in Birmingham Public Schools. Her advocacy was, and is, in Social Justice. Hilery participated on many committees on diversity, and cultural teaching. She attended or ran banned books workshops and served on the ALA Coretta Scott King Jury for two years. After leaving teaching, she joined several groups, including WCR, Fems for Change (signing up voters), Book Ban Workshops, and became a trustee at the Oak Park Library. For fun she travels, reads, and collects children’s books and crafts. On Valentine’s Day in 1998 she proudly adopted her very independent child Samantha, who is an advocate of traveling.
